In order to comply with a request from the Department of Environmental Protection, Pennsylvania American Water will be conducting a one-time, week-long test to confirm water disinfection efficiency. The test will use a low concentration (1 mg/L) of fluoride as a tracer to verify the disinfection contact time (CT) through the finished water storage tanks at the Nesbitt Water Treatment facility.
As a result of the short test duration and minimal fluoride level, customers supplied by the Nesbitt Water Treatment Plant should not experience any noticeable changes in their water quality or service. Fluoride is a common additive to public water systems for dental health protection, and the expected level of residual fluoride present in the water for the test will be well below the maximum allowable limit.
Monitoring of the fluoride levels will be conducted throughout the duration of the test to ensure levels remain within drinking water standards.
The tracer test is scheduled for December 9-11, 2025
