Lawrenceville receives EPA notice for water problems
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill (WTWO/WAWV) — WTWO has obtained a violation notice from the Illinois EPA alleging violations regarding Lawrenceville’s freshwater plant.
The violation notice from the Illinois EPA alleged:
- Structure/maintenance problems at the wellhead, which threaten the quality of the drinking water provided to customers.
- Failure to obtain a construction permit from the Illinois EPA for the potassium permanganate feed system and hydrofluosilicic acid feed system in use.
- Failure to provide adequate fluoridation
- Multiple failures to obtain proper operating permit from the Illinois EPA
- Failure to maintain a minimum chlorine residual in all active parts of the distribution system, at all times.
- Failure to have an Agency approved, written sample site plan for coliform that identifies repeat sample sites within five service connections upstream and downstream of the original sampling sites representative of water throughout the distribution system.
- Failure to have a comprehensive cross-connection control program.
- Failure to perform annual testing of all backflow prevention devices in the system.
- Failure to conduct a cross-connection control program survey at least once every three years.
- Failure to correct all significant deficiencies identified in the April 14, 2023, Notice of Significant Deficiencies.
- Disinfectants and Disinfection By-Products (DBPs) sample results were not received for August 2025 monitoring period.
- Lead and Copper sample results were not received for the January 1, 2025, to June 30, 2025, monitoring period.
- Failure to provide notification to customers of potential or known service line containing lead.
- Failure to submit to the Agency a certification form confirming that persons served though a lead, galvanized requiring replacement, or lead status unknown service line have been informed of their service line material.
- Failure to submit a source water treatment recommendation.
- Failure to submit an optimal corrosion control treatment recommendation.
- Failure to obtain a supplemental construction permit for the installation of 60-gallon sodium hypochlorite day tanks.
