Letters to the Editor: DuPont’s response on PFOA

Source: The News Journal (Delaware) | April 8th, 2016
Industry type: Perfluorinated chemicals

The manufacturing, use, and phase out of PFOA is a complicated issue that has spanned six decades – during which time the knowledge about the chemical evolved significantly.

Your recent special report failed to address the complexity of the issue thoroughly or accurately.

Importantly, DuPont acted responsibly and appropriately based on the health and environmental information that was available at the time. At the forefront of DuPont’s decisions and actions throughout this long period has been the health and well-being of our employees and the communities in which we operate.  From the tests and studies we funded and published; to providing PFOA control technology on a royalty-free basis, to the leadership role we assumed in the PFOA Stewardship Program, which has led to massive reductions in the use of PFOA in the United States; to the introduction of PFOA-free replacement products with improved environmental and safety profiles, DuPont worked collaboratively to do the right thing on behalf of our stakeholders.

Today DuPont remains committed to fulfilling any legal or environmental obligations that we have regarding PFOA.

DuPont remains committed to the highest standards in health and environmental stewardship and welcomes a greater dialogue with the News Journal on these topics.
