A meeting will be held in Lismore on Thursday evening to discuss ways to stop the fluoridation of the region’s water supply.

The meeting is being organized by members of the Fluoride Free Lismore group and will be held at the Italo Club in Barrow Lane, North Lismore, from 6pm to 8pm.

Organiser Su Couper said the community meeting would discuss options to stop the pending fluoridation of the Lismore and surrounding areas water supply.

‘Because there is a pending state election on the 28th March, and our local council have told us they no longer have any role in the decision making of mass medicating us, we feel it vitally important to discuss our options concerning who will be the next NSW Health Minister in charge of this,’ she said.

At the meeting, all four local candidates have been asked to provide a ‘Statement of Party Policy on Fluoridation’ to aid us in our decision making on election day which will be read out to the meeting.

‘No candidates have been asked to attend – just to supply their statements.

‘We are asking for all interested people to bring along to the meeting any printed materiel they may have on the issue, so we can begin to collate the latest scientific studies for future use.’

Rous Water is currently constructing four fluoride plants in the region.

The construction is expected to be completed around Easter 2015 allowing the supply of fluoridated water shortly afterwards.

Ballina Shire Council is also constructing a fluoride plant at Marom Creek Water Treatment Plant to supply fluoridated water to Wardell.

Fluoridated water will be supplied to most town water customers in the Ballina, Lismore and Richmond Valley Council areas.

The Richmond Valley Council township of Casino is already supplied with fluoridated water.

Fluoridated water will not be supplied to Byron Shires town water customers nor town water customers in Nimbin.

Ballina council recently rejected a motion from Cr Jeff Johnson to hold a poll at next year’s council elections.
