Lithgow City Council will convene a public meeting in the next few weeks to gauge public opinion on putting fluoride into the central western New South Wales town’s water supply.

Mayor Neville Castle says there has been some unhappiness about a poll of residents’ attitudes to fluoridation which was conducted recently by the Western Research Institute.

“A few of the councillors believe that the poll wasn’t sufficient enough, so the idea of the public meeting was to see if further people, either for or against it, would be prepared to come along and be part of the debate or at least show their support in one way or another,” he said.

Meanwhile, councillor Castle and deputy Mayor Barbara Moran were last night re-elected unopposed.
