Mackay Regional Council: Omundson steps into CEO role

BARRY Omundson is the new chief executive officer of the Mackay Regional Council.

He has more than 13 years of experience working in local government and is currently the director of infrastructure for the Maranoa Regional Council.

Mr Omundson is familiar with the Mackay region, having worked for the council under former mayor Col Meng as a commercial service director in 2008.

He is well versed on the region’s issues and is keen for the challenge ahead.

… You were working on the council when fluoride was introduced. Was it the right choice?

No I was never behind the push.

Fluoride for Mackay was implemented by the State Government.

Col Meng and I had to implement the fluoride because it was a State Government directive…
