RIDGELAND, Miss. (WLBT) – Ridgeland city officials will be hearing from state leaders next week on why they should keep fluoride in the water.
In December, the Board of Aldermen voted to take the first step to officially remove fluoride from the treatment process, which would be hearing a presentation from the Mississippi State Department of Health.
That presentation is expected to be given to the mayor and board at its meeting on June 16, Public Works Director Alan Hart confirmed.
Ridgeland had not been adding fluoride to its water for at least three years prior to the vote, largely due to the shortage brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A copy of the MSDH Fluoride Discontinuation Policy, the first step for removing fluoride is for members of the public body to hear the MSDH presentation.
The policy states that cities cannot remove fluoride simply because of supply chain shortages.
The meeting is set for Tuesday, June 16 at 6 p.m., at Ridgeland City Hall.
