ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) | Midge Point: Population is under 1,000 and is not under the fluoridation mandate| June 10, 2010
Posted on June 10, 2010 AustraliaMidge Point residents will not have fluoride added to their water supply.
Mackay regional councillor Deirdre Comerford says Queensland Government legislation stipulates that fluoride must be added to water supplies only where the local population is more than 1,000 people.
Cr Comerford says fluoride will be added to supplies in Sarina by the end of the year and supplies at Marian and Mirani by the end of 2012.
“When it comes to Midge Point we asked the Government to review the schedule because there was less than a thousand …[people] up there which meant it did fall below the threshold and they’ve agreed to that,” she said.
“We’re not then made to put fluoride in the water supply for Midge Point and we won’t be. That’s what council has decided.”
