JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska — The Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Bioenvironmental Engineering Flight and Doyon Utilities want to inform all water consumers, effective Dec. 1, the Fluoride Injector system operated at the Water Treatment Facility will resume operations.

The fluoride injector malfunctioned last April and was shut down due to high levels of fluoride in the drinking water.

Since April, a number of administrative and physical controls have been implemented to correct this problem and prevent recurrence.

Bioenvironmental Engineering and Doyon Utilities have worked closely with Alaska’s Department of Environmental Conservation and Alaska-approved Professional Engineers to ensure that the system meets all requirements and to obtain approval for turning the system back on.

The system has passed the DEC inspection and will resume normal operations. Both Doyon Utilities and Bioenvironmental Engineering will continue to monitor the fluoride levels to ensure safe drinking water for JBER.
