TOWN OF SHELBY, Wis. (WXOW) – Residents of the Town of Shelby had the opportunity to weigh in on a proposal to remove fluoride from the municipal water system.
According to Tim Ehler, president of Sanitary District 2 in Shelby, the proposal heavily stems from the recent fluoride shortage across the United States and the future need to replace the community’s water system.
Following the sanitary district board meeting Thursday night, Ehler said he was happy to see the turnout and how residents are taking an active role in this discussion.
“We’re very happy actually. People came, responded by email, they responded by phone calls, in person,” Ehler said. “We want to hear how it affects our residents that are on the water systems. We haven’t changed anything at this point. We’re gonna go as we have, but we’re not gonna take it lightly.”
The discussions are expected to continue in the coming months as leaders take time to hear from residents and weigh all of their options before making a final decision. That decision could come as late as 2027.
