Defluoridation of drinking water with pottery: effect of firing temperature.
Abstract Excessive fluoride (F) in drinking water should be removed, but simple, inexpensive methods of fluoride removal are not readily available. This study examines the F(-)-binding capacity of clay and clayware, especially the effect of the firing temperature on the F(-)-binding process. A series of pots were made from ordinary potter’s clay and fired at […]

Aluminium phosphate for the defluorination of potable water
Abstract In this paper, a new method for the defluoration of potable water is described. In the proposed method, aluminium phosphate is used as a matrix of the stationary phase which can adsorb fluorides or exchange with fluorides selectively and reduce the concentration of fluorides in natural water to an allowable level. We have repeated […]

Aluminium and fluoride in the water supply and their removal for haemodialysis.
Abstract Aluminium and fluoride in the water supply and their removal for haemodialysis have been investigated in the Trent Region, U.K., and wide variations noted. The efficiency of removal of these elements from the mains water supplying home haemodialysis units by different water treatment systems currently installed has been assessed and a follow-up study performed […]

Arsenic and fluoride removal from groundwater by reverse osmosis.
Abstract The reverse osmosis process was evaluated for removal of naturally occurring arsenic and fluoride from groundwater. Arsenic removal was affected by the prevalent arsenic species present in the water. Arsenic concentrations were reduced by approximately 60%–90% from nearly 80 ?g/L. Fluoride concentrations were reduced by approximately 60% from nearly 1.7 mg/L. *Original abstract online […]

FLUORINE BALANCE AND FLUORINE EMISSION FROM CEMENT KILNS
IN THE BURINING OF PORTLAND CEMENT CLINKER THE FLUORINE IS PARTLY DRIVEN OUT OF THE RAW MATERIAL AND FUEL. IN ORDER TO ELUCIDATE THE QUESTION WHETHER THE FLUORINE IS EMITTED IN GASEOUS FORM WITH THE KILN EXIT GASES OR IS COMBINED IN SOLID FORM IN THE CLINKER OR IN THE DUST, COMPLETE FLUORINE BALANCES FOR […]

Spectrophotometric determination of fluosilicic acid in hydrofluoric acid
Abstract: A procedure is reported for the spectrophotometric determination of fluosilicic acid in commercial hydrofluoric acid. The determination of silicon as (?)a-silicomolybdic acid is carried out directly without previous separation of hydrofluoric acid. Title of Study: Studies in the spectrophotometric determination of silicon in materials decomposed by hydrofluoric acid: Spectrophotometric determination of fluosilicic acid in […]
