Port Orchard: Fluoride question will be floated to water customers

The City Council on Wednesday agreed to survey water customers’ preferences on fluoride and take action — or not — based on the results. The survey will be sent with water bills before the end of the year…

Not all of the city gets fluoride in its water. McCormick Woods, annexed in 2009, is on a separate water system from the downtown area. The McCormick system ties into part of Bremerton’s water system that serves The Ridge and Anderson Hill Road. Depending on need, Bremerton can supply homes within Port Orchard’s city limits, but Port Orchard water can also be diverted to Bremerton’s system.

Since Bremerton has an ordinance against fluoridation, McCormick Woods couldn’t have fluoride unless the two systems were separated. That would require major upgrades on the part of both cities. Plans for those upgrades are on the books but not imminent, Dorsey said…
