A local resident will be asking the Owensville Town Council to reconsider the community’s water fluoridation program and plans to present scientific research supporting his position at the September town board meeting. Pedro Ferreira, Owensville resident and local business owner, spoke Tuesday during the public comment section of the town council meeting, announcing his intentions to deliver the presentation on the fluoridation of the town’s public water supply. Ferreira said the presentation will focus on concerns about adding fluoride to public drinking water, describing it as a medication introduced without individual consent. He also said he plans to discuss recent scientific studies and systematic reviews that he believes raise questions about potential neurological effects associated with higher fluoride exposure during pregnancy and early childhood. Ferreira will be delivering his message at the Sept. 15 meeting.
