As it turns out, many counties across our state are adding fertilizer runoff to our water systems without our consent or quite frankly, our knowledge.
Fluoride has become a hot topic and source of debate. In one group, you have Republicans who roll their eyes and tell those who want to ban the “drug” to get out their aluminum hats and just comply with what the government thinks is best.
On the other hand, you have a group of people who just want individuals to have the right to choose whether or not they ingest a substance.
Here’s what I’ve learned about fluoride from the House Agriculture & Natural Resources Subcommittee this week.
Dr. Jack Kall, a dentist of 46 years and the Executive Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, responded to the standard response from dentists who say “fluoride is harmless and natural”. Using current research, he informed listeners that the body does not have any need for fluoride in order to function. It’s actually “an enzyme inhibitor and adversely affects the function of our mitochondria”.
He continued to share that “fluoride added to the water is not pharmaceutical grade. [It] is a waste product from the fertilizer industry, contaminated with lead and radon.”
Do a quick internet search on the source of the fluoride used to fluoridate our water, and you’ll see that 95% of it comes as a byproduct of phosphate fertilizer from phosphate rock deposits.
When the phosphate rock is treated with sulfuric acid to make fertilizers, a gas called fluorine is released. This gas is then captured and “scrubbed” to create the fluorosilicic acid that’s added to our water treatment facilities.
The argument from dentists who support the use of fluoride, including the two that testified against the bill this week, is that fluoride is natural, safe and effective. Yes, fluoride is a natural mineral, but that is not the fluoride that is being added to our drinking water. That is a false narrative.
The committee also heard from Mr. Clark Culver, from the Mississippi Short Coleman Park Water Association, who shared that it is the only chemical that comes with a warning sign showing a skull and crossbones.
Mr. Culver shared his experience from working in Tennessee and dealing with this harmful chemical. He stated that it is required that he add the fluorosilicic acid to the water supply unless a local government mandates otherwise.
Alicia Azimipour, the Legislative Chair for the Tennessee Dental Hygienists’ Association, who spoke against the bill and is in favor of mandatory fluoridation, said during the committee, “governments should have the right to choose whether or not they fluoridate the water”.
It is her position that local governments must be given the option to test their own water supply and ensure the “medication” (aka fertilizer run off) be provided to anyone who drinks from the tap.
Along with other supporters of mass fluoridation, they cite problems with tooth decay and weak enamel. Their fear is that, “if we don’t fluoridate the water, children will have more cavities”.
Dr. Kall referred to the Cochrane Study in his presentation, which was released in 2024. After reviewing over 150 peer reviewed studies, they found that “the benefit of fluoridation has declined since the 1970s, when fluoride toothpaste became more widely available.”
Once families had the option of buying toothpaste with or without fluoride, the data proved the health “crisis” decreased and self-government again proved to be effective.
Our current HHS secretary is making great strides in focusing our country towards making better health choices, which will directly impact tooth health in children. Cavities in children do not increase without fluoride, cavities in children do not increase because of better food choices. Parents should be far more concerned about the IQ status of their children if they drink water from the tap and use toothpaste with fluoride, increasing the amount of fluoride ingested past the recommended dosage level.
We are at a time in our culture where any mandatory medical intervention should be an immediate red flag. The public is waking up to the power of self-government and making decisions for ourselves and our families. Unfortunately, we aren’t even being given medical-grade fluoride, we’re being poisoned by fertilizer run off and vapor.
Rep. Reneau closed out her time in the committee by saying, “the only way to restore true choice is to restore individual choice and the only way we can do that is to remove fluoride from the public water and people can choose to add it” through toothpaste, fluoride tablets, etc.
Tennessee Stands supports HB2396/SB0162 and we ask that you ensure your representatives understand the greater impact of this bill. Let’s join Utah and Florida and get out in front of this. Let’s be a state that RFK, jr. can point to and celebrate as he fights to reclassify fluoride as “industrial waste” and make sure the truth of this additive is known by every family who can make their own choice regarding fluoride.
Not sure if your water is fluoridated? Start by going to the “My Water’s Fluoride” CDC website and choosing your county from the list.
