A Hamilton County representative introduced a slew of bills that align with the Make America Healthy Again agenda associated with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who stopped at the Tennessee Capitol for his “Take Back Your Health” tour.

State Rep. Michele Reneau, R-Hixson, sponsored six pieces of legislation regarding public health and environmental concerns, including House Joint Resolution 0780 that proposes amending the Constitution to guarantee the right to food.

Reneau has focused on bringing policies that align with Kennedy’s ethos, characterized by claims that artificial dyes and other additives are increasing chronic illness in children, to the state level, she told the Chattanooga Times Free Press in an interview regarding her plans for reelection.

FLUORIDE IN WATER

Accompanied by the earlier-introduced Senate Bill 0162 in the Senate, House Bill 2396, if passed, would prohibit public water utilities from adding fluoride to water.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention deemed the fluoridation of drinking water one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century because it helps prevent tooth decay.

In a press release from the House Republican Caucus, the bill is described as ending forced mass medication and restoring informed consent. The bill would not ban the use of topical fluoride, such as treatments done at dental offices.
