SPOKANE, WA – On Thursday, September 10th at 6:00 p.m. the citizen’s group Safe Water Spokane will host a virtual Zoom forum on fluoridation that is free and open to the public. It will also be live streamed on the Safe Water Spokane Facebook and YouTube pages.

The forum will feature presentations by an expert panel, including two scientists specializing in neurotoxicity and toxicology, a family physician and a dentist. It will also have the attorney representing several organizations and individuals harmed by fluoridation currently suing the EPA in federal court for allowing the practice. The focus of the trial is what the judge has stated is “significant evidence” that fluoridation chemicals can lower IQs in children.

Immediately after the presentations, city councilors will have 20 minutes to ask questions, followed by ample time for questions from the public.

City council president Breean Beggs has hosted two presentations for the council by those lobbying for fluoridation, but has rejected numerous requests by Safe Water Spokane for equal time for scientific and medical opponents to present.

Jeff Irish, chair of Safe Water Spokane, said “Our webinar will give us time to inform the public and city councilors on fluoridation’s health risks to everyone. And it’ll show how it’s disproportionately harming low-income families, who can’t afford expensive filters or bottled water to avoid fluoridation’s harms – they have no choice. That’s not right.”

He added, “This is about scientific integrity – looking at both sides of the issue – and about fair play in the democratic process, both of which have been denied. Several city councilors have said they would like more information. This forum will give them – and the public – that opportunity and enable everyone to make more educated decisions.”
