SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – Starting this month, drinking water in San Diego will be fluoridated, city officials said Monday.

All residents in the City of San Diego, as well as Coronado, Del Mar and Imperial Beach will start receiving fluoridated drinking water on Dec. 22.

The move meets a California state law requiring water agencies with over 10,000 water service connections to fluoridate their drinking water.

The First 5 Commission is funding the operation with up to $3,927,016 for capital costs and operating and maintenance costs for up to two years at the city’s three water treatment facilities.
