SARCOXIE, Mo. — Voters in Sarcoxie have an extra question to decide about what goes into their water supply.
Their ballot asks if the city would stop adding fluoride to the water system.
The council initially added the question when the water plant was having problems accurately measuring fluoride levels.
Officials said upgrading the system wasn’t possible at that time.
But the ballot sparked attention at the state level, with an offer to help with upgrades.
“If we hadn’t done that, we wouldn’t be getting the equipment we’re going to get. And they’re going to bring in fluoride. And so it’s turned out it’s really been a benefit to do that. The council, when I tried to rescind that, that we were not going to remove the fluoride, they said we’ve already talked about this. Let’s let the voters decide,” said Dr. Debbie Royce, Sarcoxie mayor.
