WICHITA — What started out as a proclamation declaring February National Children’s Dental Health Month turned into a political discussion about fluoridation and “Obamacare” this morning at the Sedgwick County commission meeting.
Commissioners were discussing the proclamation when Karl Peterjohn and Richard Ranzau spoke out against putting fluoride in water for everyone. They said they could not support adding fluoride to Wichita’s water, saying there are other ways for children to get fluoride for dental care, including in toothpaste.
Peterjohn said he was against forced medication, especially in the time of “Obamacare,” referring to the Affordable Health Care Act.
