THE Green Party has named its man to fight for Southampton Itchen in the General Election.

Long-standing anti-fluoridation campaigner John Spottiswoode, who also stood in the 2010 election, will contest the seat in the election on May 7.

Father-of-four Mr Spottiswoode runs two firms, Energy Saving for Businesses Ltd and online site Nutrition-UK, and has worked on projects involving nutrition and self-help with the NHS.

A school governor and author, Mr Spottiswoode was one of the leading figures in the decade-long fight against having fluoride added to the tap water of thousands of homes in Southampton and Hampshire.

The battle finally ended last year when Public Health England dropped the plans.

Mr Spottiswoode has a particular interest in using economics to create a fairer and sustainable society.

He said: “We can address the problem of inequality in the UK and around the world by making big corporations and big earners pay their |fair share.”
