Former Deputy Chief Minister and DMK Treasurer M.K. Stalin has assailed the inordinate delay in the implementation of the Rs. 1928.80-crore Hogenakkal Drinking Water and Fluorosis Mitigation Scheme with the financial assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) here on Thursday.

Addressing the party’s Lok Sabha elections consultative meeting at a private marriage hall at Periyampatti village in Dharmapuri district, Mr. Stalin accused the AIADMK government’s lethargy towards implementation of the drinking water project.

He said that 90 per cent of the works under the scheme were over during the previous DMK regime.

If the works continued in the same vigour it should have been finished much earlier.

“If the present government was unable to finish the work even after two years of its rule, let them entrust the job to us, we will finish the job within two months.

We don’t want to politicise the issue, as it is in public cause, as over 35 lakh people from Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts are expecting the project to be completed,” he added.

Mr. Stalin listed out several drinking water schemes, which were implemented within the time-frame during the DMK regime, including the Ramanathapuram Combined Water Supply Scheme, Ennore desalination plant and Nemili Water Supply Scheme. He said the DMK had seen many ups and downs, but it cannot be destroyed by anyone, Mr. Stalin added.

Mr. Stalin called upon the cadre to work hard for the Lok Sabha election to be held next year. Everyone in the party should work hard for the success of the party in the Lok Sabha election, he said.

Former Minister and Dharmapuri North District Secetary V. Mullaivendan welcomed the gathering.
