PUBLIC NOTICEIMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATERSunbury Municipal Authority has elected to cease the addition of fluoride.Fluoridation will be discontinued on 7/17/26.What should I do?You do not need to use an alternative (i.e., bottled water) water supply. However, if you have specific health concerns about this change in the water treatment, consult with your doctor and/or dentist. What does this mean? This is not an emergency. If it had been you would have been notified immediately. This is a notification of change in treatment technique. This will not affect the quality of the drinking water made available to SMA customers. The water will continue to meet all Department of Environmental Protection regulations without the addition of fluoride. What happened? What is being done? Before the widespread availability of personal dental healthcare products, some public drinking water systems, including Sunbury Municipal Authority (SMA), previously chose to add fluoride at the water treatment plant to promote dental health and help reduce tooth decay. With other dental healthcare options now readily available to the public, and in response to workplace safety concerns raised by water treatment operators, SMA has decided to discontinue the optional addition of fluoride. Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses).
