TAMPA, Fla. — The city of Tampa announced its water supply no longer has fluoride ahead of Florida’s statewide ban.

In a statement to 10 Tampa Bay, leaders confirmed that water fluoridation ended Wednesday, saying they have no more excess supply.

The plan was to either stop fluoridation once they ran out of supply or stop using it by Monday, June 30.

This makes Tampa one of many other Tampa Bay-area cities to call for the end of fluoride in its water systems. Others include St. Petersburg, Bartowand Winter Haven.

This comes ahead of a new law set to go into effect on July 1 that requires fluoride and some other additives be removed from water sources across the state.

Florida will be the second state in the country to implement a statewide ban on the mineral.
