The City of Tocco would like to inform you that the addition of fluoride to the City’s drinking water system has been temporarily suspended due to fluoride supply shortages. This shortage is the result of supply chain disruptions due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
Is My Water Safe to Drink? Yes. Your drinking water remains safe to drink and continues to meet or exceed regulatory standards for safe drinking water. Fluoride levels may temporarily drop below the recommended concentration of 0.7 milligrams per liter.
Why is Fluoride Added to Drinking Water? Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that is added to drinking water at low concentrations to help prevent tooth decay and promote oral health. The U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) and other regulatory agencies recognize community water fluoridation as a major public health achievement due to its role in improving dental health. How Will This Impact Me? The temporary suspension of fluoridation will not cause any immediate health effects, and fluoridation will resume as soon as the City’s supply is restored. Individuals who are concerned about maintaining fluoride intake should consider consulting with a healthcare provider. A lack of fluoridation over an extended period of time may reduce protection against tooth decay, particularly for children.
