Across the country, communities are rejecting the recommendation of health groups to add fluoride into their municipal drinking water.
Although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calls water fluoridation one of the top 10 greatest public health achievements of the 20th century, staving off major problems with tooth decay, some people worry about potential health hazards.
In Wisconsin, nearly 80 municipalities have chosen to remove it from their water supply. The village of DeForest, a suburb of Madison, is the latest to vote to do so.
The below list from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources shows which water utilities have eliminated fluoride from their water supply. (It’s worth noting that Waukesha appears on the list, but that is because residents now drink Lake Michigan water purchased from Milwaukee, which contains fluoride.)
