TOWN OF SHELBY, Wis. (WXOW) – The Town of Shelby is considering changing how much fluoride goes into their water supply.
The Town of Shelby Sanitary District Board will discuss the potential termination of fluoride addition to their water system Thursday night. The town has historically added fluoride to their water supply.
According to the CDC, studies have shown that community water fluoridation reduces cavities by about 25% in children and adults.Communities with fluoride in their water have also been shown to save an average of $32 per person each year by avoiding cavity treatment.
Community members will have a chance for public comment and questions during the meeting, which is expected to take place at 4:30 p.m. at the Town of Shelby Town Hall.
Town of Shelby Chairperson Tim Candahl was not available for comment.
