Ten years after the city of Newport removed fluoride from its water supply, the polarizing issue has resurfaced.

The Newport City Council will gather information and hear opinions from residents about putting the naturally occurring mineral back into the water supply at a public hearing during their Sept. 8 meeting.

The Lincoln County Public Health Advisory Committee has recommended the city reinstate the practice. The total cost of the change would be about $300,000.
