The Rs. 1,928.80-crore Hogenakkal Drinking Water Fluorosis Mitigation Scheme, assisted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is yet to reach many rural and semi urban habitations in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts, said the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam here on Friday.

In a statement issued here, T. Senguttuvan, party district secretary and Veppanahalli MLA, said that a resolution was passed at the party’s urgent executive committee meeting of the district unit on Thursday condemning the lackadaisical attitude of the Government in implementing the scheme, though it was dedicated to the public nearly ten months ago by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

In its resolution, the DMK also pointed out the shortcomings in the drinking water project exposed by leading English and Tamil newspapers.

The resolution complained that even after dedication of the scheme to the public, 50 per cent of the habitations in two districts was yet to get the water.

Funds

The funds for the scheme were obtained by former Deputy Chief Minister and DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin.

The foundation stone was laid by former Chief Minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi on February 26, 2008, Mr. Senguttuvan added.
