On June 30, 2008 city officials hosted a “Town Hall Meeting” at the Community Building to address the recently adopted LB245, which requires fluoridation of the human drinking water supply of any city and village with a population of one thousand or more persons, unless the city or village has sufficient amounts of naturally occurring fluoride in its water supply. The fluoridation must be completed by June 1, 2010 unless the voters of the city or village vote to prohibit the adding of fluoride to the water. Several interested citizens attended the meeting and provided written information addressing the pros and cons of the proposed fluoridation issue. Copies of the information and web sites pertaining to the same are available at the City Clerk’s Office. It was mutually agreed by all present that the City Council should allow the citizens of Weeping Water the opportunity to vote on the fluoridation issue and to schedule another informational meeting to address community concerns.

At the July 14, 2008 meeting of the City Council, a Resolution was adopted to authorize that the issue of “Shall the City of Weeping Water, Nebraska adopt an ordinance to prohibit the addition of fluoride to the City’s Water system” will be placed on the ballot of the general election to be held on November 4, 2008.
