The Post is sending this three-item questionnaire to candidates running for the WaterOne utility board.

We will publish candidates’ responses the week of Oct. 20, before early voting begins.

Here’s what we’re asking candidates:

  1. Background: Readers want to know something of your background. Briefly explain your education and employment history and how those experiences qualify you for this job.
  2. Fluoridation: WaterOne has noted an uptick in residents asking or expressing concerns about fluoridation. Johnson County’s water supply has been treated with fluoride for decades, and WaterOne says the amounts of the chemical used in local water are considered safe and help prevent tooth decay. How would you respond to such anti-fluoridation concerns if elected to the board?
  3. Water quality: WaterOne regularly tests for more than 100 contaminants and issues reports on water quality in partnership with state and federal regulators. As the Trump administration has moved to aggressively cut staff and funding for the Environmental Protection Agency and roll back environmental regulations, some worry Johnson County water quality could suffer. If elected, what will you do to ensure WaterOne maintains rigorous monitoring of the water that comes out of our taps?
