For the past 17 years there has been a fluoridation proposal in Yoshikawa, a city of 70,000. Yoshikawa (which means good river) is one of the suburban cities around Tokyo.

Kenji Akiniwa, DDS, wrote us about the victory that took place in Yoshikawa this week. What finally beat the proposal was a combination of the grass root movement against fluoridation coupled with a new Mayor.

Dr Akiniwa is the editor of The Journal of the Japanese Society for Fluoride Research.

Below is the report published in The Tokyo February 21-25, 2015.
