1980 Report to reduce fluoride

Fluoride Reduction in Community Water Supplies
Prepared for the state of South Carolina, Department of Health & Environmental Control, Water Supply Division, Volume One – 1980.

“Forty-three community water supplies located along the East coast of South Carolina contain fluoride concentrations which exceed the limit established by law. During the course of this study, each high fluoride supply was evaluated in an effort to identify one or more viable alternatives that might be implemented to achieve compliance.”
The communities are:
Bulls Bay Water District – Central MHP – Conway – Crystal Lakes MHP – Edisto Beach – Forest Acres MHP – Garden City Beach – GCW&SA Pawley’s/Murrell’s – GSW&SA Garden City Area – GSW&SA Socastee – Hemmingway – Inlet Oaks MHP – Isle of Palms Water Company – Jamestown – Kingstree – Lane – Little River – Loris – Mike Williamson MHP – Mt. FLUORIDE POLLUTION SOURCES IN SOUTH CAROLINA:

In 2008, South Carolina ranked #16 out of 48 states for Hydrogen Fluoride releases (1,626,489 pounds). South Carolina industry also released 3,831 pounds of Fluorine into the environment. The following data comes from EPA’s Toxic Release Inventory (TRI). “Total releases” includes both water and air pollution. It’s important to note, however, that not all industries or sources that release fluoride into the environment are included in the TRI.
