Abstract
Changes in skin electric potential following immune challenge provide a sensitive measure of the intensity of the allergic challenge. In guinea-pigs sensitised to Sodium Fluoride, Fluoridation Mains Tap Water, or Ovalbumen with Sodium Fluoride, and then challenged with one part in one million Sodium Fluoride, significant allergic responses were produced. Ovalbumen alone caused an allergic response only after a second challenge. Purified water did not result in any immune response. It is concluded that Fluoridated Mains Tap Water is capable of causing an allergic response similar to that produced by Sodium Fluoride alone, and that Ovalbumen potentiates the immune response to Sodium Fluoride.

Allergy to fluoride
Six children and one adult exhibited various allergic reactions after the use of toothpaste and vitamin preparations containing fluoride. The following conditions were encountered: Urticaria, exfoliative dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, stomatitis, gastro-intestinal and respiratory allergy.

Symptoms experienced during periods of actual and supposed water fluoridation
Fluoridation of water is a controversial measure because of the suspicion that it has harmful effects on health. Opinions differ as to the reality of these fears. In Kuopio, after distressing disputes over the fluoridation issue, the City Council decided to stop fluoridation at the end of 1992. In fact,

Allergic reactions from fluorides
In a discussion of drug allergy it is necessary to distinguish between intolerance and allergy to drugs. One represents intoxication, the other is characterized by wheal formation, eosinophilia and other features of an allergic reaction. Gastric irritation, for instance, or acne from iodides or bromides represent intolerance to these drugs

Fluoride tooth paste: a cause of perioral dermatitis
Since its description in 1957 by Frumess and Lewis as a “light-sensitive seborrheid,” perioral dermatitis (PD) has continued to be a perplexing entity. (1) Many causes have been postulated, including sunlight sensitivity, birth control pills, emotional stress, fluorinated steroid creams, Candida albicans, and rosacea. We have gathered clinical and historical data implicating

Factors which increase the risk for skeletal fluorosis
The risk for developing skeletal fluorosis, and the course the disease will take, is not solely dependent on the dose of fluoride ingested. Indeed, people exposed to similar doses of fluoride may experience markedly different effects. While the wide range in individual response to fluoride is not yet fully understood, the following are some of the factors that are believed to play a role.

Fluoride & Perioral Dermatitis
Perioral dermatitis (PD) is a common rosacea-like dermatitis that was never reported prior to the mid-fifties. Although it can affect both sexes and all ages, most patients are women ages 20-50 years. Patients with PD frequently report a pre-existing tendency to blush. This disease is most likely multifactorial in origin, and fluoride preparations in dentrifices probably have played a role as precipitator.

Fluoride Exposure Aggravates the Impact of Iodine Deficiency
A consistent body of animal and human research shows that fluoride exposure worsens the impact of an iodine deficiency. Iodine is the basic building block of the T3 and T4 hormones and thus an adequate iodine intake is essential for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland. When iodine intake is inadequate during infancy and

Fluoride & the Immune System - Summation from the US National Research Council (2006)
“There is no question that fluoride can affect the cells involved in providing immune responses. The question is what proportion, if any, of the population consuming drinking water containing fluoride at 4.0 mg/L on a regular basis will have their immune systems compromised? Not a single epidemiologic study has investigated whether fluoride in the drinking water at 4 mg/L is associated with changes in immune function. Nor has any study examined whether a person with an immunodeficiency disease can tolerate fluoride ingestion from drinking water.”
