Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between age, dental fluorosis and intelligence in children aged 8-12 in coal-burning fluorosis (CBF) area, Guizhou province.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of dental fluorosis and intellectual level in 284 children (n=167 for CBF area, n=120 for control are) aged 8- 12 in Mar., 2015. The difference of intelligence level with different levels of dental fluorosis were analyzed.
Results: The prevalence rate of dental fluorosis of children in the endemic fluorosis area was 53.9%, which was significantly higher than that in the control (P<0.011), the dental fluorosis index was 0.59, which meant the area was an edge of epidemic area of endemic fluorosis. The standard score of Raven’s Standard Progressive Matrices (RSPM) of children in endemic area was lower than that in the control (Z=3.124, P=0.002). The intelligence level in endemic area was lower compared with the control and showed a significant difference in 12- year old group (Z=3.244 , P=0.001), no signif1cant relationship between intelligence level and levels of dental fluorosis was seen (H=5.057, P=0.281) . However, the degree of intelligence level negatively c0rrelated with age (r=-0.232, P=0.003).
Conclusion: The intelligence level of children livng in the endemic fluorosis area is lower and more further research need to be done to show the reason.

Refinement Impairments of Verbal-Performance Intelligent Quotient in Children Exposed to Fluoride Produced by Coal Burning.
To explore the relationship between total intelligence quotient (IQ), verbal intelligence quotient (VIQ), performance intelligence quotient (PIQ), and fluoride exposure in children aged 8–12 years in coal-burning fluorosis area of Dafang County, Guizhou Province, China. The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Revised in China (WISC-CR) was used to test the total

The cholinergic system, intelligence, and dental fluorosis in school-aged children with low-to-moderate fluoride exposure.
Highlights Low-to-moderate fluoride was associated with alterations of cholinergic system. The prevalence of dental fluorosis (DF) was related to cholinergic system. AChE was negatively associated with children’s intelligence quotient (IQ). AChE mediates association of fluoride with DF prevalence and lower odds of IQ > 120. DF and IQ were

Fluoride Affects Learning & Memory in Animals
An association between elevated fluoride exposure and reduced intelligence has now been observed in 65 IQ studies. Although a link between fluoride and intelligence might initially seem surprising or random, it is actually consistent with a large body of animal research. This animal research includes the following 45 studies (out

Severe Dental Fluorosis: Perception and Psychological Impact

Mechanisms by Which Fluoride Causes Dental Fluorosis Remain Unknown
When it comes to how fluoride impacts human health, no tissue in the body has been studied more than the teeth. Yet, despite over 50 years of research, the mechanism by which fluoride causes dental fluorosis (a hypo-mineralization of the enamel that results in significant staining of the teeth) is not

Community Fluorosis Index (CFI)
The current Community Fluorosis Index for U.S. adolescents as a whole (from both fluoridated and non-fluoridated areas) is roughly 5 times higher than the CFI health authorities predicted for fluoridated areas when fluoridation first began. It is also higher than the CFI that the NIDR found in fluoridated areas back in the 1980s. It is readily apparent, therefore, that children are ingesting far more fluoride than was the case in the 1950s, and even as recently as the 1980s.
