Abstract

Key points

  • Fluoridation remains a safe and effective measure in reducing the prevalence of dental caries.
  • As the overall prevalence of caries has fallen, fluoridation needs to be targeted in areas where the prevalence of caries remains an issue.
  • The return on investment lasts a lifetime and it requires no change in behaviour or diversion of an already stretched workforce from the provision of services.
