Of all age groups, infants are the most vulnerable to fluoride toxicity. Due to their small size, infants receive “approximately three to four times greater exposure (by bodyweight) than do adults” when consuming the same level of fluoride in drinking water. Infants who consume formula made with fluoridated water suffer higher rates of dental fluorosis, and may be at greater risk for other consequences, including damage to the brain and endocrine system.
Current fluoride intake among western populations with mass fluoridation programs has reached historically unprecedented levels. While the health impact of these exposures remains poorly understood, research shows that comparable doses cause serious health conditions in areas of the world with widespread fluoride poisoning. Certain individuals, including infants, diabetics, kidney patients, and those with nutrient deficiencies, are at particular risk.
FAN’s Mission Statement The Fluoride Action Network (FAN) is dedicated to protecting public health by ending water fluoridation and other involuntary exposures to fluoride. FAN is achieving these goals by educating the public, decision makers, and the media. FAN is supporting volunteers in communities affected by fluoridation and is holding government health and regulatory agencies accountable. FAN is […]

The Fluoride Action Network develops and maintains the world’s most comprehensive online database on fluoride compounds. The information in the database is free and available for anyone seeking to educate themselves. As they say: information is power.

FAN’s Comments to HHS: The Time Has Come to End Fluoridation
On January 7, 2011, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced its recommendation to reduce the level of fluoride added to drinking water based on national survey data showing that 41% of American adolescents (ages 12-15) now have dental fluorosis (a tooth defect caused by excess fluoride consumption during childhood). On January 13, 2011, […]
