The Iowa Department of Public Health has awarded 108 water systems in Iowa the ‘Water Fluoridation Quality Award’.

One of which is Osage.

Additionally, Osage was awarded the 50 Year Award for distributing continuous community water fluoridation for the last 50 years.

According to Casey Hannan of the CDC Division of Oral Health:

“Water fluoridation is one of the best investments that a community can make in maintaining the oral health of its citizens. It is equally as effective in preventing cavities in children and adults. Fluoridation is also highly cost effective. Studies continue to show that for every $1 a community invests in water fluoridation, $20 are saved in dental treatment costs.”

CDC recognizes community water fluoridation as one of the 10 great public health achievements.
