Yet More Research on Fluoride & the Brain

June 21, 2012

A new study has just been published which further elucidates how fluoride may damage the brain. Specifically, the authors suggest that fluoride may reduce the number of “nicotinic acetylcholine receptors” by increasing the level of oxidative stress.

Fluoride & Oxidative Stress: Yet More Evidence

June 21, 2012

As with Dr. Guan’s team at the Karolinska Institute, Chinoy’s team found that fluoride increased the level of oxidative stress in brains of the fluoride-treated animals.

Fluoride & Oxidative Stress: An Emerging Area of Concern

June 21, 2012

Evidence continues to come in demonstrating that fluoride may increase oxidative stress. This past week, Medline posted two new studies, which compliment 3 earlier studies this year suggesting that this is in fact the case. Many more studies published over the past 15 years have reported similar findings.

Risk Factors for Fluoride Toxicity in the Black Community

June 17, 2012

There are several risk factors for fluoride toxicity that are occur at elevated rates in the black community. These risk factors include: Reduced nutrient intake; Higher levels of lead exposure; Higher prevalence of health conditions that render the body more vulnerable to fluoride intake; and Higher intakes of fluoride.

Fluoride content in tea and its relationship with tea quality.

May 27, 2012

J Agric Food Chem. 2004 Jul 14;52(14):4472-6. Fluoride content in tea and its relationship with tea quality. Lu Y, Guo WF, Yang XQ. Department of Tea Science, Zhejiang University, 268 Kaixuan Road, Hangzhou 310027, People’s Republic of China. Abstract: The tea plant is known as a fluorine accumulator. Fluoride (F) content in fresh leaves collected from […]

Bottled Tea Beverages May Contain Fewer Polyphenols Than Brewed Tea

May 6, 2012

The first measurements of healthful antioxidant levels in commercial bottled tea beverages has concluded that health-conscious consumers may not be getting what they pay for: healthful doses of those antioxidants, or “poylphenols,” that may ward off a range of diseases. Scientists reported at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) in Boston, […]

Fluoride & Oxidative Stress

April 11, 2012

A vast body of research demonstrates that fluoride exposure increases oxidative stress. Based on this research, it is believed that fluoride-induced oxidative stress is a key mechanism underlying the various toxic effects associated with fluoride exposure. It is also well established that fluoride’s toxic effects can be ameliorated by exposure to anti-oxidants. One implication of this […]

Nutrient Deficiencies Enhance Fluoride Toxicity

March 31, 2012

It has been known since the 1930s that poor nutrition enhances the toxicity of fluoride. As discussed below, nutrient deficiencies have been specifically linked to increased susceptibility to fluoride-induced tooth damage (dental fluorosis), bone damage (osteomalacia), neurotoxicity (reduced intelligence), and mutagenicity. The nutrients of primary importance appear to be calcium, vitamin C, and iodine, while […]
