LITITZ, Pa. — Lititz borough officials this week announced a temporary disruption in the delivery of fluoride to the Lancaster County borough’s water supply.

The disruption is due to supply chain issues that led to a temporary shortage, borough officials said.

According to officials, the disruption is expected to last through the end of the month

Fluoride is added to public drinking water as a health measure to prevent tooth decay, borough officials said. But it is not required for water safety, and the borough’s water supply “continues to meet all state and federal primary drinking water standards and remains safe to drink.”

Borough officials said they are currently evaluating options for and regulatory considerations and intend to resume fluoridation treatment “once supply becomes available and operational conditions allow.”

There are no health concerns related to the disruption, and residents do not need to obtain alternative drinking water supplies, according to officials.
