Dear Shrewsbury Residents:

Despite the Town’s best efforts to avoid the global supply chain issues affecting the availability of sodium fluoride, the Town of Shrewsbury inventory has now been depleted. Fluoride was last added to the public drinking water on December 3, 2021. The Town will have to wait until its vendors receive shipments to reinstate fluoride into the water system, as their inventory has also diminished. The Town will continue to be in regular contact with several vendors as well as the organizer of the consortium that the Town purchases water treatment products through; however, the consensus is that sodium fluoride will not be available until sometime in 2022. The Town does not anticipate any interruptions in the availability of the other chemicals used in our water production at this time. The situation will continue to be monitored and the Town will provide updates, once more information becomes available.

In the interim, Dr. Michael Hirsh, Medical Director for the City of Worcester as well as the Shrewsbury Board of Health are urging parents to supplement fluoride in their children’s diet during this period of time when the water does not contain fluoride due to the lack of supply.
