KANPUR: The coming summer will not go dry for rural residents of Unnao as water harvesting system will soon be in place at 181 villages of the district.

DM Rajshekhar Reddy has ordered digging of wells and ponds in 16 blocks under NREGA. The total area of newly dug ponds will be 177.440 hectare. Twenty-one teams have been set up to monitor the work.

A number of card holders, with special priority to women folk, will benefit from the 100 days’ employment scheme under NREGA (National Rural Guarantee Employment Scheme) of the Central Government. The scheme will also help villagers to get rid of the high amount of fluoride in water as a filter system will also be put in place.
