Local dentists say kids may need supplements

The city of Pendleton doesn’t add fluoride to its water supply because it’s too costly. And though the state recommends cities larger than 10,000 people add the supplement, it has no funds to pay for it.

Fluoride, a naturally occurring tooth-strengthening chemical, prevents tooth decay in children. Pendleton has fluoride in its water, but not at a level consistent enough to boost their health.
