VIDEO: Scientific Advisory to Federal Agencies Warns of Fluoride Neurotoxicity
I have another very important video to share with you today. It should be shared–along with yesterday’s earth shaking statement from Linda Birnbaum–far and wide repeatedly with decision-makers, journalists, friends, family, and within your community.
This new video features Bruce Lanphear, MD, MPH. He’s a clinician scientist and physician certified in public health and preventative medicine, with a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree.
Dr. Lanphear has studied the impact of toxic chemicals, including lead and pesticides, on children’s brain development for over 20 years. His research has been almost exclusively funded by federal agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Health Canada.
He has served on multiple scientific advisory boards for the EPA and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and has earned various awards for his work, including the Research Integrity Award from the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology and the Advocacy Award from the Academic Pediatric Association.
Dr. Lanphear is well-known in the environmental science community for authoring seminal research on the neurotoxicity of low levels of lead. His blood lead research, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), was cited by the EPA as the critical study upon which the agency based the current national air standard for lead.
He has also co-authored several landmark human studies funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on fluoride and the brain, including (Green, 2019), (Till, 2020), and (Goodman, 2022).
He works as an investigator at BC Children’s Hospital and as a professor of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. His research focuses on fetal and childhood exposures to environmental neurotoxins.
Dr. Lanphear was invited by the City of Dallas to present on fluoride neurotoxicity. This is what he said:
It’s clear from Dr. Lanphear’s statement and from the weight of the science: people are actively being harmed by this practice, and in a significant way. Fluoride is the new lead, and the U.S. Centers For Disease Control (CDC) aren’t taking action, nor are the World Health Organization, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), American Academy of Pediatrics, American Dental Association, or their state level peers. This is why–among many other reasons–this issue requires our attention and dedication. Our collective effort is a worthy one, and our success will have a significant and long-lasting impact on generations of people.
With your support, FAN can continue to alert the public to important messages like Dr. Lanphear’s and spread it to journalists, medical and scientific professionals, water operators, and into the hands of federal, state, and local policymakers.
