Dear Supporter:

Today we start our annual fundraiser. But before we do that let me give a HUGE thank you to all of you who have done so much and in so many different ways to educate people on the unscientific and unethical nature of water fluoridation. So while for the next 31 days we will be talking about fundraising, that does not mean that we don’t recognize and value the many hours of effort so many of you have put into ending this practice around the world. So if you are one of those valiant people, we want you to know how grateful we are for the support and work you have already contributed to this important campaign. Without volunteers on the ground, there would be no victories. Thank you!

Our goal

We have set our goal this year a little higher than last year – $120,000 from 600 donors by midnight Dec 31 (this deadline is to accommodate those who wish to use their donation for tax reduction purposes for 2013). Every contribution, no matter the size, will be significant because our opposition will be spending at least ten times this amount (some from taxpayers’ pockets) to keep this unethical and unscientific practice going.

Many victories in 2013

With our massive referendum victories this year in Wichita, Kansas and Portland, Oregon and with the lifting of the mandatory requirement to fluoridate in both Queensland and Israel and with enormous rumblings in Ireland and a steady trickle of victories in Canada and New Zealand – it is clear that the proponents of fluoridation are getting desperate. They are now stooping to nasty personal attacks. I guess we should be upset about this – and we are – but we also recognize that it is pointing to the bankruptcy of their case at the scientific level. More details of all this will come out in the steady stream of bulletins that we will be issuing during the fundraiser in order to keep the momentum and fun going until we reach our goal.

Two campaigns

This year we will be running two campaigns side by side. The first campaign is for donations to reach our mini-goal of $80,000.

The second campaign is raise pledges from big donors, which will only kick in if we reach that mini-goal. In other words even though $120,000 looks pretty daunting right now as the second target mounts it will be come clear that if and when we reach $80,000 we will be very close to the $120,000 target.

So please dear supporters send us your donations and pledges now and let us see how close we can get to our mini-goal and our ultimate goal by midnight Dec 31.

Gifts for different donation levels

To sweeten the pie we will have our usual bunch of gifts for donations at different levels (see listing below). I would also like to throw in a slightly different gift, which needs a little introduction.

As some of you know I wear two activist hats. For 17 years I have worked to end water fluoridation worldwide and for 28 years I have fought against waste incineration and promoted alternative and sustainable solutions. In both efforts I have had great support from my family (especially Ellen and Michael) and many other friends and colleagues. This waste effort has taken me to 49 states in the US, 7 provinces in Canada and 61 other countries. In all I have given over 2,500 pro bono presentations on this issue. I have now put this experience into a new book published in November by Chelsea Green. It is called, The Zero Waste Solution: Untrashing the Planet One Community at a Time, with a foreword by Jeremy Irons (who has hosted and co-produced an excellent movie on waste called Trashed).

We are offering a signed copy of this book for a donation of $103.00 (please note we use these funny pledge numbers as a code for which gift to send you). We will also be offering a signed copy of The Case Against Fluoride for a pledge of $53.00. My share of royalties for both books will be going to AEHSP (our parent 401 part c3 organization which covers both our waste work and our fluoridation work) and FAN respectfully.
