Gearing up for an exciting December

FAN Bulletin | December 01, 2014

Dear Supporter,

We have an exciting month ahead of us. Today we start our annual fundraiser and kick off a series of bulletins providing both a year-in-review and a glimpse of what is to come in 2015. Next week FAN and Dr. Joseph Mercola (Mercola.com) are teaming up for Fluoride Awareness Week, and on December 14th the entire FAN team will be featured on a special interactive Fluoride-Free Teleconference.

Before we get into fundraising let me give a HUGE thank you to all of you who have done so much and in so many different ways to educate people on the unscientific and unethical nature of water fluoridation. So while for the next 31 days we will be talking about fundraising, that does not mean that we don’t recognize and value the many hours of effort so many of you have put into ending this practice around the world. So if you are one of those valiant people, we want you to know how grateful we are for the support and work you have already contributed to this important campaign.   Without volunteers on the ground, there would be no victories. Thank you!

Our goal

We have set our goal this year a little higher than last year – $150,000 from 1000 donors by midnight Dec 31 (this deadline is to accommodate those who wish to use their donation for tax reduction purposes for 2014). Every contribution, no matter the size, will be significant because our opposition will be spending at least ten times this amount (some from taxpayers’ pockets) to keep this unethical and unscientific practice going.

We would like to thank those of you who have contributed in the past, as well as those who have already contributed in 2014. We will be sharing our fundraising progress with you in a short section of each bulletin this month.

What we have in store for December

With significant fluoride-free victories this year in Israel and throughout Ireland, and with a steady supply of victories in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S. – it’s clear that our momentum is continuing to grow, that the proponents of fluoridation are getting desperate, and that we have a great deal of info to share with you.  Stay tuned, because this month we will be giving you more information and opportunities to interact than ever before. Here are several of the things FAN has in store for December:

Daily Bulletins that will a) update you on how our fundraising effort is going (some people find these updates as exciting as we do, others will find the fundraising details unappealing, and to those we apologize; hopefully, the second part of each bulletin will compensate) and b) provide some very useful information which will be helpful in your own individual battles to end fluoridation in your community or state. So useful in fact, that we recommend that you print them out and put in a file for later reference and use– they will also be available online.

Fluoride Awareness Week: During the second week in December, Dr. Mercola and FAN will be teaming up for our annual Fluoride Awareness Week. During the week supporters will see new revealing fluoride articles each day on Mercola.com and gain access to new fluoride multimedia and tools, including a new interview with Dr. Paul Connett. There will also be a few great surprises in store, including exciting offers for supporters.

Teleconference: On Sunday, December 14th at 5pm (EST), the entire Fluoride Action Network team will be featured on this month’s International Fluoride Free Teleconference. The call is free and will provide a year-in-review of the fluoride issue, as well as provide an opportunity for supporters to ask the FAN team questions. So please register today and join us for this great opportunity to interact with fellow campaigners from around the world and have your questions about fluoride answered by the experts.

How to donate

All donations are tax deductible.

  • Or by check – payable to FAN (AEHSP) and send to: FAN, 104 Walnut Street, Binghamton NY 13905

Gifts for different donation levels

To sweeten the pie we will have our usual bunch of gifts for donations at different levels (see listing below). We would also like to throw in a slightly different gift, which needs a little introduction.

As some of you know FAN’s Executive Director, Paul Connett, PhD. wears two activist hats. For nearly 19 years he has worked to end water fluoridation worldwide and for 30 years he has fought against waste incineration and promoted alternative and sustainable solutions. In both efforts he has had great support from his family (especially Ellen who edited a weekly bulletin called Waste Not from 1988 to 2000) and many other friends and colleagues. This waste effort has taken him to 49 states in the US, 7 provinces in Canada and 62 other countries. In all he has given over 2,500 pro bono presentations on this issue. Paul has now put this experience into a new book published in November 2013 by Chelsea Green. It is called, The Zero Waste Solution: Untrashing the Planet One Community at a Time, with a foreword by Jeremy Irons (who co-produced an excellent documentary on waste called Trashed).

We are offering a signed copy of this book for a donation of $51 in the US and $61 for all other countries (please note we use these funny pledge numbers as a code for which gift to send you). We will also be offering a signed copy of The Case Against Fluoride for a pledge of $40 in the US and $50 for other countries. Paul’s share of royalties for both books will be going to the American Environmental Health Studies Project (our parent 501c3 tax-exempt organization which covers both our waste work and our fluoridation work) and FAN respectfully.
