A RECENT public poll of Balranald residents has found 89 per cent are against the fluoridation of the town’s water.
More than 12 months ago, the New South Wales Department of Health proposed that Balranald’s water be fluoridated.
Fluoride has been hailed by some as a way to ensure the dental health of the community, and condemned by others as a poisonous substance not to be consumed.
In the recent poll, a total of 414 residents voted on whether they want Balranald’s water fluoridated, with 370 voting against and 44 voting for the proposal.
Balranald Shire Council general manager Chris Littlemore said NSW Health held an information session when the issue first arose, but only 25 to 30 residents attended.
