Voters in Boyne City may have the opportunity to directly decide if the city’s water system is fluoridated come November.

During the non-agenda public comment portion of Tuesday’s regular semi-monthly Boyne City City Commission meeting, a small group of citizens put the commission on notice that they plan to circulate a petition seeking to put the question of whether the water system should be fluoridated on the ballot through a citizen initiative process spelled out in the city’s charter.

… The city’s law firm has opined that even though the city’s practice of fluoridating its water supply was approved by a vote of the people in 1970, the commission was within its legal rights when it voted to discontinue the practice.
