Voters have decided to continue fluoridating Crescent City’s water supply. With most ballots counted, Measure A was losing with 485 “no” votes and 369 “yes” votes.

The initiative was put on the ballot through a petition drive by local residents who claimed fluoridation adds unhealthy toxins to the water.

Local dentists and others in favor of fluoridation said it’s necessary to ward off tooth decay.

City voters are only a fraction of the more than 14,000 people who drink the fluoridated water, but they were the only ones eligible to vote.
