The Eastborough city council has approved a resolution asking Wichita to fluoridate its water, according to Mayor Thom Rosenberg.

Eastborough buys water from Wichita, which is debating whether to add fluoride to the water.

“The resolution supports the water fluoridation as a safe, effective and economical public health measure,” Rosenberg said Wednesday.

The support for fluoridation came in a unanimous vote Tuesday night by the Eastborough city council, Rosenberg said. He said he is planning to send a copy of the resolution to Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer.

Derby, which also buys its water from Wichita, passed a resolution supporting fluoridation a couple of weeks ago, according to Mayor Dion Avello. The city council voted unanimously for fluoridation.

A local organization called Wichitans for Healthy Teeth is gathering signatures for a petition to fluoridate Wichita water. They plan to present the petitions to the Wichita City Council.
