… The decision by the Illinois Pollution Control Board to cut the required level of fluoride by 30 percent is expected to reduce costs to municipal and private drinking water systems without affecting the oral health benefits of fluoride.
The board’s decision came in response to a recommendation issued in May by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which said cutting fluoride levels will provide the same benefit of reducing tooth decay, particularly in children.
